Series 1 - Scottish Documents 1729–1840

This series of documents all come from Scotland, dating to prior to Moses and Jessie emigrating. They trace three generations of Moses’ forbears – Duncan, Patrick and John, who all held the tack of Auch (formerly Achiniscallan) – as well as their wives and children, and allow us to put together a pretty good family tree back to 1729. Also included are records of the various other tacks the family held.

I have spent more than 20 years trying to read some of these and I still don’t have some of it – basically some of the handwriting is appalling, even though most of them were written by professional secretaries. Two online sources in particular have been very useful: Scottish Handwriting.com and Dictionary of the Scots Language. But sometimes you just have to guess.
